ODENVILLE, Ala. – Odenville has fired its fire chief after an incident in which two premature stillborn fetuses were flushed down a toilet at a home.
City council members unanimously approved Mayor Rodney “Buck” Christian”s decision to fire David Davis at their meeting Monday.
After hearing an allegation that two fetuses were flushed, the St. Clair County sheriff started an investigation. He plans to turn over everything they find to a grand jury.
Davis says he and two other emergency workers “followed protocol” during the July 23 incident. Details of what his department did were not clear. But the coroner has said the mother had a miscarriage about 20 weeks into her pregnancy and that the family had nothing to do with the disposal of the fetuses, which were recovered from a septic tank.
Davis can challenge the firing in a hearing.
