ABERDEEN — The Aberdeen Board of Aldermen has suspended a city building inspector charged with soliciting a bribe from a contractor.
The board voted 4-1 Tuesday to suspend Terry Lenoir without pay for an indefinite period.
Alderman Alonzo Sykes voted against suspending Lenoir.
Lenoir was arrested last Tuesday by Monroe County deputies and charged with offering and accepting a $1,000 bribe. The arrest came after a complaint from a contractor.
The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports that more contractors could come forward with accusations against Lenoir. It wasn”t immediately clear if Lenoir had hired a lawyer. Messages left at city hall and the sheriff”s department Thursday weren”t immediately returned. Lenoir”s numbers was disconnected.
