Columbus police this morning arrested a man sought in a simple-assault case.
Police arrested Jimmie Henley, 50, of 136 Rhonda Road, on charges of simple assault domestic violence, after Lt. Carroll Culpepper received information of where Henley was, at around 9 a.m. today.
“I went over there and he was there and we apprehended him,” Culpepper said. “He was sitting on somebody”s front porch and was found.”
Culpepper said he was arrested without incident at 1214 Eighth Ave. N., and the charge is a misdemeanor. Henley faces up to a $1,000 fine and up to a year in jail.
He was transported to the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
Henley is accused of striking a 60-year-old woman over her head with the blunt end of a knife Monday night at 1216 Eighth Ave. N. The victim was sent to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle and was released Tuesday.
“She”s okay,” Culpepper said.
In an unrelated incident, Columbus police report a 33-year-old man was stabbed Tuesday night in Columbus, but information on the location of the incident and attacker is unknown.
According to Interim Columbus Police Chief Selvain McQueen, the victim, Antonio McBride, of 1725 Bell Ave., was attended to at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle but could not identify or give a description of the attacker. McQueen said the victim first made contact with police at the hospital, and he could not give any information the location of the incident except that it happened on the north side of the city.
“The only thing he was able to tell us is that he was stabbed in the back,” McQueen said.
The incident occurred around 10:15 p.m., and McQueen said it was reported as an aggravated assault.
