Police are trying to find a different vehicle believed to be involved in a Nov. 28 fatal hit and run on Northside, and Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers has doubled its usual reward offering to $2,000 for information that leads to an arrest in the case.
Authorities on Thursday released still shots from a street surveillance camera of a light-colored sedan now suspected to be involved in the incident that killed Derrick Seals, 58.
Seals was walking east with his dog on Seventh Avenue North just before midnight when a vehicle “came over a blind hill and hit him” near the intersection of 21st Street North, Columbus Police Department Capt. Rick Jones said. The driver left the scene after the accident.
Jones said investigators have ruled out two dark-colored vehicles they first believed could have been involved. A closer look at the surveillance footage, he said, revealed a “white or silver” sedan that appeared to have a busted windshield.
“It’s either a late-model Cadillac or an Impala,” Jones told The Dispatch on Thursday. “We think there is possible front-end damage (to the car) too.”
Anyone with information on the car’s or suspect’s whereabouts can call Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at (800) 530-7151, CPD at (662) 244-3500 or use the P3 Tips app.
To be eligible for the Crime Stoppers double reward, tips must lead to an arrest by 12:01 a.m. Jan. 1.
