Jessica Lindsey has joined The Dispatch newsroom staff as education reporter. Her first day was Tuesday.
In her role, Lindsey will cover public and private K-12 schools throughout the Golden Triangle, as well as the Mississippi University for Women. That will include not only board meeting coverage but also enterprise stories about educational trends and human interest features.
Lindsey, a native of the Jackson, Tennessee, area, comes to The Dispatch after serving as editor for the Starkville Daily News. She’s also interned at ESPN and started her own hockey website and podcast called “Not Your Papa’s Hockey.”
“I thoroughly enjoy sports, but hockey is my favorite,” she said.
Lindsey is a 2018 graduate of Mississippi State University with a degree in communication with a concentration in public relations.
“As the education reporter, I am passionate about the future education brings to those seeking knowledge, especially the next generation,” Lindsey said. “I hope to hone my skills in journalism and do more investigative work. I want to build a network and help the public know about the happenings within school districts and other educational institutions. I want people to know what is out there beyond just brick-and-mortar schools to help further one’s education.
Managing editor Zack Plair said Lindsey has been a great addition to the newsroom.
“Jessica’s experience working in journalism in the Golden Triangle is a great asset,” Plair said. “Plus, she shows such passion for her work and a sincere desire to plug into the community. We’re excited to have her on board.”
