The victim of a fatal Tuesday night shooting has been identified.
Lamaceo Smith, 22, of Columbus was found lying in the roadway near the Columbus Heights apartments, Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant confirmed.
An autopsy has been ordered, and the body will be sent to the state medical examiner’s office, Merchant said.
Sheriff Eddie Hawkins said that Smith was found soon after 911 received a call regarding shots fired at about 7:35 p.m.
Smith had a gunshot wound to the chest, Hawkins said, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
No one has been arrested in the incident.
Hawkins asked anyone with any information on this case to call Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office at 662-328-6788 or Golden Triangle Crimestoppers at 800-530-7151, or use the P3 Tips smartphone app.
