Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle welcomes new rheumatologist, Dr. Ocheowelle Okeke, MS, MD, to its medical staff. She is in practice at BMG Golden Triangle Rheumatology, 255 Baptist Blvd., Ste. 301, in Columbus. The phone number is 244-2771.
Originally from Jackson, Okeke is a graduate of Jackson State University with a bachelor’s degree in biology and received a post baccalaureate graduate certificate from Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and a master’s of medical sciences from Mississippi College in Clinton. She is a graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Medicine and completed a residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her residency was followed by a three-year fellowship in Rheumatology at Saint Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri, in June 2018.
She is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Pediatrics.
“We are excited to add Dr. Okeke to our medical staff. Rheumatologists are very hard to recruit but very much needed in our area,” said Baptist Golden Triangle Administrator Paul Cade. “We know that Dr. Okeke will fill a need for many residents who suffer with a wide variety of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, gout, lupus and other diseases,” Cade added.
Okeke has a strong background of community service while in school, volunteering for organizations and causes including the Lupus Foundation, Sarcoidosis support group, Pulmonary fibrosis support group, Jackson Free Clinic, Praise and Worship Dance Instructor for a local church, a Science Training Enrichment Program for middle school children and serving as a motivational speaker at a local high school.
“I am very excited to be back in the great state of Mississippi to provide care to such a beautiful community of people,” Okeke said.
She and her husband have two children and the family will be living in Columbus. In her free time, she enjoys watching animated short films with her children, painting, Nollywood movies and cooking.
