Two West Point men have been charged with armed robbery after Lowndes County deputies said they held a victim at gunpoint and demanded money last month.
Laquincy Markell Washington, 20, and James Jyshun Smith, 21, are accused of robbing a victim near Durant Drive off Highway 50 in Steens on May 14, according to a Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office press release. Washington and Smith pointed a weapon at the victim and took the victim’s wallet, about $110 in cash and a cell phone and ran away on foot.
The victim was uninjured.
Washington and Smith were previously implicated in a series of purse snatchings in May throughout Columbus, as well as leaving a restaurant without paying, and face robbery and defrauding an innkeeper charges from Columbus Police Department.
Both suspects are in custody at Lowndes County Adult Detention Center. Their bonds have not been set.
