A Brooksville man was arrested Wednesday for a shooting on Seventh Street South on May 11 that caused a car accident and sent the victim to an out-of-town hospital with serious injuries.
Eddie Lee Stokes, Jr., 24, has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault and two counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling, according to a Columbus Police Department press release. Stokes turned himself in to Noxubee County Jail.
The shooting occurred just after midnight on May 11 in the 400 block of Seventh Street. Columbus Police Chief Fred Shelton and Seventh Street residents told The Dispatch that two vehicles drove down the street. At least one suspect in the pursuing vehicle fired shots at the lead vehicle, with stray bullets hitting homes on the street. The driver of the first vehicle was shot, causing him to lose control of the vehicle and crash into a light pole. He was later taken to an out-of-town hospital for treatment.
Three other women in the car were not injured.
Investigators expect further arrests in the case, the press release says.
Stokes is in custody at Lowndes County Adult Detention Center. His bond has not been set.
