Ryan’s Buffet in Columbus will be closing its doors in the near future.
It is unclear when the restaurant will officially end operations. However, the lease ends on June 30.
The restaurant, best known for its buffet and located at 1201 Highway 45 N., will be listed with Rhett Real Estate.
Employees were notified this week the restaurant would be closing, and a For Sale sign was installed in front of the building.
This location was one of three left in Mississippi – with the other two located in Corinth and Picayune.
In Starkville, a new comic book store will be opening in the downtown areas.
In a store front right between Restaurant Tyler and Southern Billiards, on South Washington Street, all comic book lovers will have their very own place to “nerd-out” in Starkville.
The Last Page, which is owned by Skyland Thompson, will specialize in comic books, but will also have board games, trading cards and other used books. The “CEO,” also known as Thompson’s dog, will even be on-site once the shop opens to oversee operations.
The Last Page is expected to open later this month, which is right in time for “Free Comic Book Day” on May 5.
Now, let’s take a look at Midtown – the mixed-use development coming to University Drive.
In June, Tuscaloosa-based Midtown Development Company, which is owned by Jeffrey Harless, started construction on the commercial and residential development. Then, Harless said he envisioned a restaurant, coffee-shop or possible fitness center to open in the first-floor retail space.
Now, the first official tenant is Orange Theory Fitness company. The fitness studio offers 60-minute workouts which use a variety of strength and cardiovascular exercises. Along with the residential units, Orange Theory is expected to open this August.
Currently, the remaining leases are being finalized. But, Orange Theory will be just one of six retail spaces in the development.
Also in downtown Starkville, Tabor Management Construction and Development is heading “The Grand Junction” project, which will have a number of luxury condominiums to the area.
The project includes one, two- and three-bedroom units, and is located at 509 University Dr. – right across from the The Little Dooey. The Grand Junction is expected to open in August 2019. For more information, or for condo pricing, visit www.destinationgrandJ.com.
