At 7:30 a.m. customers were lined up outside the doors of a restaurant located at 1101 Louisville St. in Starkville to get in the only Dairy Queen in the Golden Triangle.
They had to wait three more hours before the doors officially opened.
Following numerous delays due to construction issues, pushing the opening date from May 8 to May 31, Dairy Queen celebrated its opening Wednesday by giving away two Blizzards per month for a year to the first 100 customers who purchased ice cream cakes.
The restaurant continued with strong business throughout the day, selling more than 200 cakes in their first two hours of business alongside a slew of DQ Blizzards, DQ Bakes and fan-favorite cheeseburgers. To serve these customers, Dairy Queen had 35 of its 84 employees working Wednesday morning.
Prior to Wednesday, the closest Dairy Queen to the Golden Triangle was in Tupelo. Dairy Queen is open from 10:30 a.m.-10 p.m. every day.
Recently, Columbus’ Brunini Law Firm reduced its office size to make space for Penny Bowen’s interior design service.
Following the closure of Bella Interiors in December, Penny Bowen Designs has relocated to 409 College St — the rear of the Brunini building. This change of location has opened up a 1,700 square-foot section of the law firm’s offices, granting Bowen more room to work and display design options for her customers.
“It’s allowed me to focus more on my designs,” Bowen said about the recent moves.
Clients may make appointments with Penny at 662-549-5055.
On May 23, the Brickerton shopping center in Columbus lost a business as the Southern Flour Bakery closed its doors in preparation for a move to Highway 45.
The bakery is moving to the former Brews Etc. location in the Kroger Shopping Center at 1815 Hwy. 45 N. Southern Flour was previously the Corner Bakery until the property was transferred to the hands of owner Jeff Overstreet and head chef Nicole Huff. All together, the store was located at the Brickerton for five years.
The bakery is projected to open next week, following completion of renovations.
