The Columbus Police Department has arrested a Columbus man for the murder of Brandon Michael Gordon,
Leronn Klayshay Gregory, 24, of Columbus, was arrested at his father’s house on Florence Street Monday at around 1:30 p.m., according to Interim Police Chief Fred Shelton. Gregory was charged with murder and his bond set at $1 million by municipal judge Gary Goodwin during his arraignment yesterday at 4:30 p.m. Shelton declined to say why bail was so high.
Police believe Gordon, 25, was shot on Sunday afternoon somewhere between Florence Street and Beech Street in East Columbus. Gordon called 911 to report he had been shot but could not tell dispatchers exactly where he was. Police and E911 dispatchers had to triangulate his cellular telephone position to find him.
Gordon was found in the backyard of 142 Beech St. He was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle where he was pronounced dead around 2:30 p.m.
At Gregory’s arraignment, Shelton said police had not recovered the weapon or casings used in the shooting.
Gordon’s autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday at the State Crime Lab in Jackson, according to Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant.
