Ten of Oktibbeha County’s 45 candidates for office missed Wednesday’s 5 p.m. deadline for their second campaign finance reports, documents prepared by the circuit clerk’s office show.
Of those 10 candidates, four are incumbents. All are Democrats.
Those who didn’t file include: District 2 supervisor candidates Gene Autry Perry, Tremell Orlando Sherman and incumbent Orlando Trainer; District 5 candidate Ernest Rogers Jr. and incumbent Joe Williams; District 2 justice court judge candidate Kennedy Neal; District 3 justice court judge candidate Cheikh Taylor; District 2 constable candidate Andre Quinn and incumbent Curtis D. Randle; and District 3 Constable James Lindsey.
Lindsey, Perry, Quinn, Trainer and Williams were among 13 candidates who missed May’s campaign finance report deadline.
Mississippi law requires candidates file periodic campaign finance reports detailing contributions and expenditures. Individuals or entities contributing more than $200 to a candidate in the calendar year must be identified, and those seeking office must also make similar revelations regarding expenditures totaling more than $200 in the same period.
Campaign finance forms state “failure to submit reports in accordance with statutory deadlines” result in fines of $50 per day.
The law later backtracks on penalties, including delaying certification for those winning elections, as long as the correct information is eventually reported.
