STARKVILLE – Starkville Town and Country Garden Club’s Garden Therapy Committee helped residents of Montgomery Gardens create Christmas floral centerpieces on Dec. 3.
“Our Garden Therapy Committee is responsible for working with local assisted living and personal care homes to provide educational programs and floral design workshops for residents,” said Committee Co-chair Lynn Infanger. “This is one of my favorite projects that the Starkville Town and Country Garden Club participates in because we go into the resident’s home and work with them to create beautiful arrangements to enjoy daily during the Christmas season. I also love that many of our club members know some of the residents; so, it was a time to catch up and reminisce.”
Committee Co-chair Sonjia McReynolds and Infanger coordinated the activity with Montgomery Gardens Activity Director Candy Tranum.
The centerpieces were created using natural seasonal foliage including cedar, pine, cypress, magnolia, holly berry and pinecones gathered from the outdoors. The garden club purchased red roses and baby’s breath as well.
Residents worked one-on-one with garden club members to create centerpieces for the dining room tables as well as their personal rooms. Some residents created arrangements and then took them to their neighbors who were not able to attend the activity.
Garden club members assisting in the project included Debbie Fox, Sonjia McReynolds, Lynn Infanger, Lura Jordan, Kathryn Davis, Charlotte Harding, Janet Gullett, Susan Turner, Lynda Forbus, Bettie Cummings, and Connie Templeton. Stephanie Cannon of CenterWell Home Health also assisted with the project that day.
The Starkville Town and Country Garden Club strives to learn, share, and enhance our surroundings by creating beautiful floral arrangements, improving, and/or maintaining gardens and landscaping in the community, and conserving our environment.
