St. Paul’s Episcopal Church will host its annual May Luncheon fundraiser on Wednesday, May 7, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., offering boxed lunches, a bake sale, and a limited-time Boston Butt Memorial Sale.
The event, a longstanding tradition at St. Paul’s, supports the church’s charitable missions and the ministries of the Episcopal Church Women. It draws a steady crowd each year with a mix of food, fellowship, and community spirit.
“It makes us into a unit,” Bridget Pieschel, vestry member, said. “It makes us know each other better because this is not just a small operation, it involves the whole church.”
This year’s luncheon menu includes two boxed lunch options: a chicken salad plate and a BBQ plate, each $15. Lunches will be available for pickup at the church during the event hours.
Alongside the lunch offerings, a bake sale featuring sweet and savory treats prepared by church chefs will be held. Proceeds from the bake sale directly benefit the ministries of the Episcopal Church Women.
Pieschel said the luncheon is comprised of egg-mixing committees, egg-stuffing committees, chicken-chopping committees and countless others, involving nearly everyone in the church.
“It’s very well run, and it involves everybody,” Pieschel said. “If somebody asks, ‘Can I do something?’ We’ll find a place for that person.”
A major feature of this year’s fundraiser is the Boston Butt Memorial Sale, honoring the memory of Tom Wolford and Todd Gale.
“… They had always been involved in the cooking of the Boston Butts for the May luncheon,” Pieschel said.
Wolford’s son, Bubba Tom Wolford has taken over the smoking of the Boston Butts since his father’s passing, along with the help of their current priest Andrew McLarty.
Only 54 smoked Boston butts will be available for purchase at $35 each, with proceeds going toward St. Paul’s charitable outreach. The limited availability means early orders are encouraged.
Orders for boxed lunches and Boston butts can be placed online at stpaulscolumbus.com or by calling the church’s office (662) 328-6673. Payments may be made in advance online or at pickup by cash, check, or card.
The deadline to place all food orders is May 5.
Pick-up for all items will be at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, located at 318 College Street in downtown Columbus. For more information, the church can be reached at (662) 328-6673.
