Army Spc. Anna A. Takerer competed in the Army Best Warrior Competition for the 441st Engineer Company.
The week-long series of events, described as “the Super Bowl of Army competitions,” saw 20 soldiers from 10 Army commands come together to compete in a series of combat simulations, physical fitness tests, battle drills, written exams and board interviews. The first was a physical fitness test that included a timed series of push-ups, sit-ups and a 2-mile run. Participants also fired M-4 rifles during a night qualification course and completed day and night land navigation challenges and combat-related tasks such as hand-to-hand combat, first aid and weapons assembly. The winners in the unit Soldier of the Year and Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year categories will move on to Fort Lee, Virginia, to compete in the Army-wide competition.
Takerer is currently serving as a combat engineer with the 441st Engineer Company at Naval Support Activity-Mid-South, Tennessee. She has served in the military for three years.
She is the daughter of John and Mary Takerer of Oxford. She is a 2016 graduate of Starkville High School, Starkville.
