The 26th annual Magnolia Independent Film Festival will take place Thursday through Saturday at the UEC Hollywood Premier Cinema in Starkville.
The Magnolia Independent Film Festival was created in 1997 by Ron Tibbett. It is the first film festival to be held in Mississippi and now attracts filmmakers from around the world.
The festival strives to provide the Golden Triangle community with an opportunity to experience the films of many talented filmmakers.
The 2023 festival will feature a red carpet event on Saturday evening, special VIP lounges, a workshop held by Jeremy Burgess and films made by filmmakers from Mississippi, the rest of the United States and other countries.

Festival director Chris Misun says “The tradition of the Magnolia Independent Film Festival is an important part of the Golden Triangle story, and we are honored each year to make this festival a possibility. We are proud of this year’s lineup and feel that it contains a strong variety of themes produced by filmmakers from Starkville to several countries across the globe. We feel that this will be one of the most enjoyable slates of films for our audiences, and we look forward to hosting some very talented filmmakers as well.”
Magnolia Film Festival Board President Michael Williams added “In addition to an enriching slate of films, I’m proud to see The Mag continuing its legacy to nurture emerging filmmakers. We are hosting two free educational opportunities on Saturday. One is a free workshop about collaborative screenwriting hosted by writer/producer Jeremy Burgess and a panel discussion with film industry professionals from Mississippi discussing how to thrive as a filmmaker and entrepreneur.”
