■ Book Sale: The Friends of the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library will be hosting its monthly book sale from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the second floor of the library.
■ Beginner Jewelry Wiring Workshop: The Starkville Area Arts Council will be hosting a workshop teaching participants the basics of making wired jewelry from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Tickets are $35 per person and are limited. Tickets include the cost of the lesson from Carolyn Adams-Price and materials; more expensive materials will be available for purchase. All funds raised go toward supporting SAAC’s programs and operations.
■ AiPP Exhibit Opening Reception: Starkville Area Arts Council will be holding a reception from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at 109 West Main Street for its exhibit featuring the works of artist Libby Cagle. For more information, go to starkvillearts.net.

■ Quilt Exhibit Guest Speakers: The Oktibbeha County Heritage Museum is hosting a program at 10:30 a.m. about the Mississippi Quilt Challenge Exhibition. Quilters Julia Graber, Leanne Green, Jackie Watkins and Cathy Reininger will be coming to the museum to speak about how the exhibit was formed and how they created their art work. ■ Books and Authors: Friends of the Starkville Public Library will be hosting a book talk with Dr. Darden North, a practicing physician from Jackson who will be discussing his novel “Party Favors.” The talk will begin at noon at the library, and refreshments will be served at 11:30 a.m.

■ Pi Jacobs Concert: Pi Jacobs will be performing at the Columbus Arts Council Theater at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6 p.m. Blending a blues soul sound with American roots music, Pi’s music has drawn comparisons to Tom Waits, Dolly Parton and Lucinda Williams. ■ Dollyfest: Starkville Area Arts Council and Starkville Strong will be hosting a series of events themed around music sensation Dolly Parton. There will be a paint party at Dunkington from 4-6 p.m. Saturday. There will also be brunch and bingo at Walk-Ons from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday. ■ Martin Luther King Jr. Day March: The Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Committee is organizing a march and program commemorating the holiday in the city of West Point. The march will begin at 9 a.m. at Navastar on East Half Mile Street and will end at Mary Holmes College. In the event of bad weather, the march will be canceled with a motorcade taking its place. Afterward, a program will begin at the college’s gym at 9:45 a.m.

■ Nashville Chamber Music Society: The Nashville Chamber Music Society, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing chamber music to local communities around Nashville and surrounding areas, will be visiting the Mississippi State University campus for a masterclass and concert. This event, free and open to the public, will begin with masterclasses at 3 p.m. and a concert at 7:30 p.m. in the Music Building Recital Hall.

■ Shop Local Warehouse Sale: Local retailers in Starkville will be making room for their spring inventory in this first-ever warehouse sale at the old Western Auto building at 308 University Drive. ■ Frostbite Half Marathon: This annual winter half marathon, presented by Chick-Fil-A Starkville, will wind its way through Main Street Starkville and incorporate the Cotton District, Mississippi State University’s campus and Starkville’s Historic District along its course. The half marathon begins at 9 a.m. on Main Street, with 10K and 5K races being run throughout the morning. Registration ends on Jan. 23rd. ■ Blue Tie Gala: The Boys and Girls Club will be hosting its annual Blue Tie Gala at The Idlewild Event Venue in Columbus at 6 p.m. Tickets are $50 per person, $400 per table. ■ String Serenade: Brought to you by the string section of the Starkville Symphony Orchestra, this performance of chamber favorites includes Grieg’s Holberg Suite, the Elgar Serenade for Strings and the Tchaikovsky Serenade for Strings. The orchestra will also perform a Starkville premier of Kilar’s Orawa with 15 individual string parts. The concert will begin at 2 p.m. at Bettersworth Auditorium in Lee Hall of Mississippi State’s campus.
