Students of Golden Triangle Theatre and Music Academy will get a chance to showcase what they’ve learned for the public beginning Friday when they stage a production of “Annie Jr.”
Being held at the 7th Street Center, 202 7th St. N., in downtown Columbus, the play will have three performances on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. There will also be a special show for area schools at 9:30 a.m. on Friday with more than 700 students expected to attend.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children.
There will be 52 students acting in the play.
These students have been working diligently to prepare for the show.
“We auditioned ‘Annie Jr.’ last October and the students involved are from our theatre academy program that runs year round,” said Garrett Torbert, executive and artistic director for the organization. “These students have been working on the production weekly to prepare for five performances, including our first school show. We are extremely excited about that. Our students will get to perform for their friends and others from around the Golden Triangle. We have roughly seven schools attending from Caledonia, West Point, Columbus, New Hope and a few home school programs. We expect more than 700 just for that one show.”
In addition to the students on the stage, there will also be seven students behind the scenes in the technical crew, helping the show go off without a hitch.
“This is our first year to offer technical theater where students who enjoy more of the backstage experience can work on sets, props, costumes and other parts of backstage theater,” Torbert said. “This is an incredibly exciting production and we hope to share it to many in our community.”
