Junior Auxiliary of Columbus wrapped up its Summer JAM project at HEARTS Afterschool Tutoring Center. Using classic Bible stories, JA members worked with HEARTS Director Lisa Rooker to create memorable learning experiences for elementary students from across Lowndes County.
JA members focused on helping students build reading comprehension, vocabulary and content reading skills through activities tying Bible stories into crafting and science projects. The students loved being hands-on with microscopes, tie dye and books.
“Volunteering with the students of Summer JAM is always a heartwarming experience,” Junior Auxiliary of Columbus active member Lindsey Beck said. “I’m always impressed with Mrs. Lisa’s dedication to the students. We’re grateful to her for the opportunity to help Summer JAM participants gain valuable reading skills!”
Junior Auxiliary of Columbus provided more than 100 hours of service through HEARTS Summer JAM. Members will continue to provide academic and mentoring services to students enrolled at HEARTS Afterschool Tutoring Center during the school year.
