Dennis Dupree was named interim superintendent for Columbus Municipal School District on Thursday night.
The board approved the hire during executive session of a special-call meeting at Brandon Central Services. The decision came after Superintendent Cherie Labat’s abrupt resignation Tuesday evening.
Dupree, who retired in 2019 after serving 12 years as superintendent for Clarksdale School District, is a former principal and assistant superintendent at CMSD. He briefly served alongside David Sullivan as interim superintendent before he left for Clarksdale, district public information officer Mary Pollitz said.
Dupree’s appointment is for 117 days for which CMSD will pay him $87,500. Pollitz said the district hopes Dupree can start by the end of August.
