A gallery reception celebrating artists Lee Ann Merkl, Leigh Ann Edmonds and Mary Ellen Winborn takes place at 5:30 p.m. at the Columbus Arts Council, 501 Main St. Admission is free.

Backpacks filled with school supplies — more than 200 available — will be distributed on 14th Avenue South at 1 p.m., along with free food, snow cones and a bounce house. Children must be present to receive supplies.
Ward 2 Councilman Roderick Smith hosts a community pool party at the Columbus YMCA, 602 2nd Ave N., from 3 to 5 p.m. Pizza and snacks will be available while supplies last.
