WHITE STATION — A Clay County club owner was bound and robbed atgunpoint as she returned home early Sunday morning.
Ruby Coggins, owner of Club G”s in White Station, was being dropped off at her home at 1985 Pinkerton Road by an acquaintance when two armed men confronted the women in Coggins” yard.
Clay County Sheriff”s Office Chief Deputy Eddie Scott said the men came from behind the house and surprised Coggins and Margerie Moore. The men forced the women into Coggins” house before binding their hands and feet with duct tape. They placed one woman on the floor in a bedroom and the other on the floor in the kitchen. Neither woman was harmed.
The suspects stole Moore”s black Mitsubishi SUV along with $3,000 in cash and nothing more. The SUV was recovered abandoned a half-mile from Coggins” residence. The men likely knew Coggins would be carrying a large sum of cash from the club, Scott said.
Both suspects are black. One is described as 6-foot-2 with a slender build and light complexion. The other is 5-foot-8 with a stocky build and dark complexion. The women gave conflicting reports as to whether one or both men were armed with guns.
The CCSO is pursuing several leads, but, as of Tuesday, had made no arrests.
“We”re still interviewing the victims. There”s a good bit of stuff going on,” Scott said.
Ivy Village break-ins
The CCSO also is investigating a string of break-ins in the Ivy Village community six miles west of West Point on Highway 50.
Would-be burglars tore a tin wall off the back of a laundromat Thursday night and unsuccessfully attempted to retrieve change from a dryer. Suspects also attempted to break a lock off adjacent storage buildings.
A nearby Siloam Water District building was also burglarized, but the break-in wasn”t discovered until Sunday. A safe was torn from a cabinet and cracked open. An estimated $300 was stolen.
Investigators also are pursuing leads on the break-ins.
