A Mississippi arts group and a Starkville community volunteer are each receiving a $50,000 grant to help promote their work.
The Foundation for the Mid South on Friday announced the winners of its “Do-Gooders” grants. The group awarded $300,000 total, with money divided equally among the three states it serves – Mississippi, Louisiana and Arkansas.
The Mississippi grant recipients are the Delta Arts Alliance in Cleveland, which promotes cultural awareness for children; and Starkville resident April Heiselt, who coordinates volunteer efforts for students and others. Heiselt”s grant will help the Starkville chapter of Habitat for Humanity.
The foundation says more than 600 people or groups were nominated for the grants.
