Columbus man faces DUI-maiming charge
A Columbus man was charged with DUI-maiming after his passenger suffered a broken neck in a car crash.
William Zackery Johnson, 20, of 350 Deer Trail, was arrested on Tuesday after investigators with the Columbus Police Department determined Johnson was intoxicated at the time of an accident that occurred at the Luxipalila Creek Park on June 22.

CMSD board hires accountant to work on budget
The Columbus Municipal School Board has hired an accountant to help construct the district’s budget for the 2013-2014 Fiscal Year.
The board originally made a motion to hire CPA Frances Goldmon during a special meeting Tuesday morning but then tabled the issue until a rate of pay could be determined. The board met again this morning and approved the motion by a 3-0 vote. Board members Currie Fisher and Angela Verdell did not attend today’s meeting.
Two Columbus men arrested on meth charges
Two Columbus men were arrested this weekend on methamphetamine charges.
Rickey Lamar Harrison, 56, and David Ray Keating, 37, were arrested Friday night after agents with the Lowndes County Narcotics Unit conducted a traffic stop near North Lehmburg Road.
Liddell sues CMSD for reinstatement
Former Columbus Municipal School District Superintendent Dr. Martha Liddell has sued to be reinstated as the district’s superintendent.
The Dispatch obtained a copy of the lawsuit, which was filed Friday afternoon in Lowndes County Chancery Court by her attorney, Austin Vollor of Starkville. Dr. Liddell is asking the court to “intervene to restore the rights of the plaintiff, namely to reinstate her as superintendent.”
