SFD responds to garage fire, saves home
Swift work by Starkville firefighters kept a garage blaze from damaging an entire home Sunday morning.
Station 3 of the Starkville Fire Department responded to 90 Leflore St. in the Rolling Hills subdivision off North Jackson Street at 8:11 a.m. Sunday after a neighbor called and alerted the three occupants that the garage was engulfed by flames.

STARKVILLE — Two murder trials are slated for the Oktibbeha County Circuit Court’s October term.
Steven D. Love, 28, of Maben, will stand trial Wednesday for the beating death of 68-year-old William C. Brown in late 2009. Love’s trial has been continued multiple times since he was indicted in August 2010.
Starkville beats Canton to remain atop region
STARKVILLE — The Starkville High School football team recovered four Canton fumbles, and running back Preston Baker scored two touchdowns to lead the Yellow Jackets to a 45-8 win Friday night.

Starkville woman dies in hospital after collision with log truck
A Starkville woman died Friday night following a vehicle collision with a logging truck that morning.
Jessie L. Brown, 65, was driving her 1995 Chevrolet Lumina southbound on Reed Road in Starkville when she failed to give the right-of-way to the 18-wheeler headed west on Highway 25 and struck the left side of the truck, according to police.
