Kentucky women rout Ole Miss; Alabama loses
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Already a key player down, the University of Mississippi women’s basketball team could only watch the problems mount as the University of Kentucky put on its most ferocious defensive display yet.
Courtney Marbra scored seven points to lead Ole Miss, but the Rebels committed the most turnovers in a Southeastern Conference game this year Thursday in an 82-41 loss to No. 6 Kentucky.
Freeze pleased with first class at Ole Miss
OXFORD — Hugh Freeze basically had a three-week period to patch together his first recruiting class.
All things considered, the new University of Mississippi football coach is pleased with the results.
“I’m never going to sit up and tell you every kid is great, because that’s proven in time,” Freeze said. “But we do believe it’s very good.”

A body discovered on Bud Price Road in Lowndes County has been identified. According to Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant, Robert Paul Martindale, 55, of Tishomingo County, was found dead when he was pulled from a boat dock along the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway Saturday afternoon.

Starkville boys beat Oxford; girls lose
OXFORD –Looking to avenge regular-season losses, the Oxford High School girls and the Starkville High boys soccer teams earned wins in the second round of the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 5A North State playoffs on Saturday.
In the first of two games at Oxford’s Bobby Holcomb Field, the Oxford girls controlled possession to upend Starkville 2-0. In the second game, the Starkville boys dominated the pace of play and smothered Oxford’s attack in a 4-2 victory.
Starkville’s win allows it to play host to Hernando on Tuesday in the Class 5A North Half final, while the Oxford girls will hit the road to play Ridgeland.
Holloway, Rebels beat Gamecocks
OXFORD — The University of South Carolina men’s basketball team knows the University of Mississippi’s Murphy Holloway better than any other team.
That doesn’t mean the Gamecocks could figure out a way to stop him.
The 6-foot-7 junior forward scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds against his former team, helping Mississippi beat South Carolina 66-62 on Saturday night.
