No. 23 MSU showcases depth in latest win

In August, Jeffery Simmons recognized the opportunity he had to be that player this season for the Noxubee County High School football team. Instead of shying away from it and allowing some of his senior teammates to shoulder that responsibility, Simmons seized it and established himself as one of the team leaders in preseason workouts and in the weight room.

The 5-foot-10 freshman guard from Houston, Texas, has watched sophomore forward Ketara Chapel overcome complacency and timidness and attack the beginning of the 2014-15 season. Nevitt admits she had her share of questions and nerves as she approached her first season with the Bulldogs. Those butterflies carried over into MSU’s initial games and caused Nevitt to doubt herself and to think too much.

Vivians honored as MSU women return to national rankings
Monday was a good day for the Mississippi State women’s basketball team.
Coach Vic Schaefer and the Bulldogs learned Monday morning that the Southeastern Conference named guard/forward Victoria Vivians the SEC Freshman of the Week. The 6-foot-1 standout from Scott Central High School also was named College Sports Madness’ SEC Player of the Week after she earned MVP honors in leading MSU (4-0) to the Preseason Women’s National Invitation Tournament title.
