On April 15, 2025 a large crowd gathered at The Trotter Convention Center to recognize and celebrate the inaugural class being inducted into the Lowndes County Hall of Fame. Lowndes County has a long history of producing individuals who impacted sports in various ways. Some have gone on to compete at the highest levels of their sport.
Others have coached at the middle school, high school, junior college, college and university, and even professional level. Still others have coached and worked with youngsters at the YMCA or with the Recreation Authority in their very early stages of development. All of the inductees spent countless hours working to develop their skills and abilities.
According to Trip Hairston, President of the Lowndes County Board of Supervisors, the inductees we honored in 2025 embodied “the spirit of perseverance, dedication, and community service that defines the best of athletic excellence.”
I want to make the public aware of some important dates involving the 2026 induction class. Dec. 15, 2025 will be the last day for the board to receive applications for consideration for being selected for the 2026 class.
On Jan. 8, 2026 the Board will hold a press conference at the Convention and Visitors Bureau to announce to the public the members of the 2026 class. The induction class for 2026 will be honored and recognized at a banquet at the Trotter Convention Center on April 17, 2026.
We encourage each member of the public to help be a part of history by nominating someone to be considered for induction. Nomination forms and criteria can be found at lowndescountysportshalloffame.com.
Thank you for your consideration.
Glenn Lautzenhiser
President of the Lowndes County Sports Hall of Fame
