WEST POINT – A man was charged with murder after fatally shooting another man Sunday night.
Dennis Roberson Jr., 45, was arrested Sunday at his girlfriend’s home, located at 76 Glendale Road, after shooting and killing her ex-boyfriend Joshawon Ross, 40, West Point Police Chief Michael Edwards told The Dispatch.
West Point police responded to reports of shots fired at about 11 p.m.
Roberson was at his girlfriend’s home, along with three other people, when Ross came to the residence with his girlfriend and began “banging on the door,” Edwards said.
Edwards could not say exactly what transpired between the two men, but said there was no physical altercation before the shooting, and Ross did not enter the home.
Roberson fired at least three rounds, though Edwards could not say whether those shots were taken from inside the home.
“There’s other circumstances that might lead us to think that some (shots) transpired inside and some transpired outside, but all of them were from the arrestee,” Edwards said.
Ross passed away at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
Roberson allegedly lived at the home with his girlfriend, though Edwards said that detail remains under investigation. Roberson is being held at Clay County Detention Center without bond.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information pertaining to the shooting is asked to contact the West Point Police Department at (662) 494-1244 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at (800) 530-7151.
