A Christian father is the head of his family, and these are some of the duties God requires him to do for his children:
n Be a good provider by working hard to supply his children with whatever they need financially, physically and spiritually, just as God supplies us with what we need. “But my God shall supply all your needs according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19) KJV
n Encourage his children when they are having a bad day, or feeling down and out by telling them, “You can make it, don’t give up, you can do it if you set your mind to it!” “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:11) NIV
n Teach his children the Word of God at an early age so it can catch root and grow up in them. “And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.” (Deuteronomy 6:7) KJV
n Protects his children and makes them feel safe as God does His children. “The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.” (Proverbs 18:10) KJV
n Comforts his children when they’re going through hard times as God comforts us when we’re going through hard times. “Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.” (2 Corinthians 1:4) KJV
n Discipline his children when they do something wrong and tell them I’m doing this because I love you. “Those who spare the rod of discipline hate their children. Those who love their children care enough to discipline them. (Proverbs 13:24) NLT
n Has the patience to listen to his children and give them good instructions on how to handle life’s problems. “Hear, ye, children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.” (Proverbs 4:1) KJV
n Train his children in the right way. “Train up a child in the way he should go: when he is old, he will not depart.” (Proverbs 22:6) KJV
So be encouraged today fathers and always remember: When you do these duties you will be a good example for your children to pattern their lives by. “Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.” (1 Timothy 4:12) KJV
Happy (early) Father’s Day!
