The Oktibbeha County School Board has yet to receive a proposal even in the neighborhood of the appraised value of vacant 16th Section land that includes Okitbbeha County Lake, which has been closed to the public since April.
The Oktibbeha County School Board rejected the only proposal put forth to lease 16th Section land that includes the Oktibbeha County Lake on Monday night because the proposal, among other things, was nearly $18,000 less than the appraised value.
During a public hearing Monday, District 3 Supervisor Marvel Howard noted many options should be considered for the Oktibbeha County Lake lease.
“If the school board gets a proposal then great, but we have to look at our other options just in case,” he said.
During a meeting of the Oktibbeha County Board of Supervisors Monday, Executive Director of the Golden Triangle Planning and Development District Rudy Johnson fielded questions concerning the progress of a comprehensive plan for the county.
It has been 14 months since the lease between Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks and the Oktibbeha County Board of Schools expired.
Foul play is not suspected in the death of an Oktibbeha County man found dead March 14.
