Pandemic-safe Halloween events to raise money for charity
With the COVID-19 pandemic, Halloween might look a little different in the Golden Triangle this year.
Many of the usual haunted houses and other events that kids and kids-at-heart have become used to attending over the years are canceled, such as Starkville’s annual Pumpkinpalooza, due to the difficulty of maintaining social distancing at those events.

The Columbus Cultural Heritage Foundation board will be watching the turnstiles from now on. As it puts together its plans for Fiscal Year 2014, the board will scrutinize events that are not generating enough tourism activity to justify Foundation resources, board president Dewitt Hicks and executive director Nancy Carpenter said during a recent board retreat.
Super Saturday II: Golden Triangle hosts variety of events
Columbus got its name during a town meeting in 1819. According to local historian Rufus Ward, there wasn’t much fanfare associated with naming the young town located on the banks of the Tombigbee River. Silas McBee, one of the town’s founders and leading citizens, suggested the name Columbus. And that was about it.
Downtown buzzes with activity on ‘Super’ Saturday
It is nothing rare to hear residents complain there is nothing to do in Columbus.
Anyone who was guilty of making that comment this weekend clearly didn’t walk around downtown Saturday.
Our view: Saturday: A great day to be out and about
We have it from somewhat reliable sources that Saturday will be an “S and S” day — sunny and 70s.

If the forces that determine the weather hold up their end, the city of Columbus will certainly make good on its part of the bargain.
