Mississippi has markers noting a blues trail, a country music trail, a civil rights trail and even an Indian mound trail. Now, with the dedication of a marker to author Eudora Welty, the state is starting a writer’s trail.
Attorney donates Welty memorabilia to MUW
A gift of first-edition, signed books, as well as photographs, magazines, monographs and related memorabilia representing the career of Eudora Welty has been donated to Mississippi University for Women by a Jackson attorney.

Near the end of her life, Pulitzer Prize-winning author Eudora Welty (1909-2001) still lived in her parents’ home in Jackson. Her mother’s beloved garden she had helped tend there many years earlier, however, had all but disappeared — a fact Welty lamented. Today, it has been restored to its former glory, thanks to garden designer and preservationist Susan Haltom and a committed core of volunteers.

In celebration of the Eudora Welty photographic exhibit currently open at the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library, Emma Richardson will present “Welty’s Schoolteachers: Heroic Portraits” Tuesday, July 27, at 2 p.m. in the Meeting Room of the library at 314 Seventh St. N.
