MSU's Rack reaches 1,000 points in victory

STARKVILLE ó On a night in the Southeastern Conference when a coach and a player reached 1,000, the Mississippi State womenís basketball team was more than happy to finish No. 17. Alexis Rack scored a team-high 14 points and MSU made 13 of 14 free throws down the stretch Thursday to beat No. 20 Vanderbilt 66-61 before a crowd of 672 at Humphrey Coliseum.

Arkansas menís basketball coach John Pelphrey knows it will take an outstanding effort out of his team at 2 p.m. Saturday (WCBI) to beat the Mississippi State Bulldogs at Humphrey Coliseum. Pelphrey has already witnessed what the Bulldogs can do when theyíre not at their best. Mississippi State beat Arkansas 70-56 on Jan 10 in Fayetteville, Ark.

ALICEVILLE, Ala. ó When Donald Prince suffered a season-ending injury, he didnít know what the future would hold for him on a football field. The running back from Aliceville High School in Aliceville, Ala., wondered if he would get a scholarship after he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee during the first quarter of the fourth game of the season.

CRAWFORD ó East Oktibbeha High Schoolís Jimmie Williams Jr. didnít worry when he received a phone call from East Mississippi Community College informing him the school wasnít protecting him. Even though it was only a month or so before National Signing Day, Williams Jr. had enough confidence in what he has accomplished on the football to know he would get an opportunity to continue his football career in college.
