MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The Pickens Academy (Alabama) baseball team won the Alabama Independent School Association Class A championship on Tuesday at Paterson Field in Montgomery, Alabama.
The Pirates beat Jackson Academy (Alabama) 3-1 and 4-0 to sweep the best-of-three championship series.
It was the picture of a team effort in the Game 2 shutout as all nine Pickens starters had exactly one hit. Sawyer Perrigin had a triple, and Aidan Johnson had a double. Hayden Dyer, Lane Lowery and Cole Gibson all drove in runs, while Bodhi Parham pitched a complete-game shutout, striking out two.
In Game 1, it was Lowery who starred on the mound, going all seven innings with five strikeouts. Johnson went 3 for 4 with two doubles and an RBI, and Perrigin went 2 for 4. Dyer had a single and a pair of RBIs.
Pickens went 20-6 to claim its first state title since 1997.
