STARKVILLE — For the third consecutive game Starkville Academy baseball took down archrival Heritage Academy, although Thursday’s contest had a flair for the dramatic.
The Volunteers (19-5) rallied down seven runs to escape with a 13-10 victory in Starkville. Harris McReynolds had one of the biggest hits of the night, a three-run homer, while Colby Allen and Porter Skelton added doubles. On the mound, Drew Williams struck out six batters for Starkville Academy in 4.2 innings, while Allen fanned three hitters in two innings of work.
For Heritage Academy, Aaron Downs and Rhett Ketchum drove in three runs apiece. Ketchum and Sammy Hannon each collected three hits for the Patriots.
Starkville Academy is back in action in a doubleheader against East Rankin Academy on Tuesday in Starkville, while Heritage Academy (21-9) faces Lamar School in a doubleheader on the road Tuesday.

Jackson Owen drew two walks and Brennon Wright struck out four batters on the mound, but Starkville fell in an 11-1 rout to South Panola on Thursday.
The Yellow Jackets (7-11) are back in action at 2 p.m. Saturday in a road contest with South Panola.

Ashlyn Jordan and Lauren Brown collected two hits each for Caledonia (9-11), albeit in a losing effort, as the Cavaliers fell 14-4 to Mooreville on Thursday evening.
Jordan also drew two walks, while Allison Pennington drove in two runs. In the circle, Jordan tossed three innings and struck out five batters.

Heritage Academy 9, Leake Academy 0
The Heritage Academy tennis team took down Leake Academy 9-0 Thursday.
Anne Clark Shepherd picked up a win at girls No. 1 singles (6-0, 6-2), while Stromi Shannon won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2.
In girls doubles, Heritage won the girls No. 1 match 6-0, 6-3 and No. 2 6-0, 6-0.
On the boys side, No. 1 singles player Owen Riley earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory, while No. 2 singles and No. 1 and 2 boys doubles were won by forfeit. The Patriots won mixed doubles 6-2, 6-2.
Heritage is back in action Tuesday at Starkville Academy.
