The Mississippi University for Women men’s golf team claimed second place at the 2021 USCAA National Invitational this week in State College, Pennsylvania.
Owls senior Brandon Walker won the men’s individual title by two strokes with a pair of even-par 72 rounds. Playing as an individual, freshman Emma Coggin was named women’s medalist by shooting 181 and beating Ali Bazzani of St. Mary of the Woods by one stroke. Coleman Suber finished in a tie for third on the men’s side with a 3-over-par 147.
MUW finished second after shooting 305 as a team Tuesday for a total of 602, edging out Campbellsville University–Harrodsburg. SUNY Delhi overcame a two-stroke deficit after the first round to get the win, finishing at 23-over 599.
Walker and Suber were named to the all-America first team, while Zach Riley and New Hope’s Logan Pannell were named to the second team. Riley shot an 11-over 155, and Pannell finished with a 14-over 158.
Fourth-year head coach Benji Williams was named the 2021 USCAA coach of the year, and newcomer Chesne Joyner was named 2021 female student-athlete of the year.
