The Swim Columbus swim team returned to competitive action at the 2020 John Servati Memorial Short Course invitation meet last weekend in Tupelo.
It was the first competitive meet since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Swim Columbus competed in a dual meet in September.
The meet took place with precautions like six feet of social distance, limited spectators and required mask-wearing for nonswimmers and for athletes not in the pool or on the pool deck.
Each swimmer improved their time from last year, and several qualified for the state swim meet, which will be held in 2021.
Mariia Tsvetkova (9 years old), Izzy Clark (10), Colin Knox Wright (11), Kameron Wright (9), Daniel Snyder (12), Axel Phillips (8), Hayden Wallace (10) and Cade O’Brien (11) all qualified for the state meet. Katarina Snyder (7) and Olivia Shivers (7) each qualified for the 8-and-under swim meet.
Swim Columbus will compete in the Santa’s Best invitational Dec. 4 in Biloxi and will participate in the Sunkist Sprint to Christmas on Dec. 11 in Jackson.
