Caledonia and West Lowndes high schools have hired new head boys basketball coaches for the 2020-21 school year.
Tony Seals and Michael Huffman will have their new contracts made effective July 1 by the Lowndes County School District at Thursday’s board meeting.
Seals, who will take over at Caledonia, was formerly an assistant and a PE teacher at New Hope Middle School. He will replace former Caledonia boys and girls coach Gary Griffin as the ‘Feds’ new boys coach and as a driver’s education teacher at the school.
Seals formerly coached at South Lamar (Alabama) High School.
Huffman, the former head girls coach at McAdams High School, will replace Donta Yates with West Lowndes. Yates led the Panthers to the MHSAA Class 1A quarterfinals this season.
Additionally, Columbus softball coach Eric Thornton told The Dispatch on Wednesday that he has left to take the head coaching job at Belmont High School.
Thornton coached the Falcons’ slow-pitch softball team for seven seasons and the fast-pitch team for six.
