The Mississippi High School Activities Association has extended its suspension of all athletic practices, workouts and competition in accordance with Gov. Tate Reeves' announcement Thursday that all public schools in the state will be closed through Friday, April 17.

"Like many State High School Associations around the South and throughout the nation, the MHSAA will continue to monitor and evaluate this situation as we move into the month of April," MHSAA Executive Director Don Hinton said in a statement. "But as long as schools remain closed on a statewide basis, return to competition and practice will not be an option."

The MHSAA also canceled its state archery, choir and band championships and canceled spring football practice for the remainder of the school year.
