GULFPORT — New Hope senior Ryan Burt hurled a two-hit, complete-game shutout as the Trojans beat Terry 3-0 on Tuesday at the Battle at the Beach tournament at Harrison Central High School in Gulfport.
Burt struck out nine hitters in his seven innings of work and also recorded a hit at the plate.
Presley Hall led the way with three hits for New Hope (4-3), and David Young and Cole Ruffin each drove in a run.
The Trojans continue play in the tournament when they face North Pike at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Martin High School in Ocean Springs.
Starkville 4, St. George’s 3, eight innings
D’IBERVILLE — Starkville High School outlasted St. George’s 4-3 in eight innings in the Battle of the Beach tournament Tuesday at D’Iberville High School.
Jackson Owen drove in two runs for the Yellow Jackets (6-4) and tied for the team lead with two hits.
Freshman Ethan Pulliam, who committed to Mississippi State on Sunday, pitched all eight innings, striking out seven hitters.
Starkville faces St. Joseph at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Long Beach High School to continue play in the Battle of the Beach.
Wayne Academy 3, Starkville Academy 1
BILOXI — Starkville Academy lost to Wayne Academy 3-1 on Tuesday at the Battle at the Beach in Biloxi.
Harris McReynolds led the Volunteers (5-1) with two hits on the day, and Randall Futral drove in Starkville Academy’s lone run.
The Vols continue play in the tournament when they face Senatobia at noon Wednesday at West Harrison High School in Gulfport.
Southern Academy (Ala.) 12, Pickens Academy (Ala.) 0
CARROLLTON, Ala. — Pickens Academy (Alabama) lost Tuesday’s home game to Southern Academy (Alabama), 12-0.
Bodhi Parham went 1 for 2 with the Pirates’ only hit and a walk.
Pickens Academy (0-3) will host Kemper Academy at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
