Monday served up some home cooking for the East Mississippi Community College basketball teams, with the Lions picking up two wins against Coahoma. The men won 69-56, while the women picked up a 79-48 victory.
On the men’s side, the Lions picked up their sixth straight series win against Coahoma and advanced to 10-4 and 3-0 in conference play. Jakorie Smith scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Danny Washington had 12 points and Donte Powers contributed 10.
Meanwhile, the EMCC women improved to 12-2 (3-0) by riding a seven-game win streak. It was the Lions’ seventh straight series win over Coahoma. Ja’Mia Hollings contributed a season-high 27 points, while Topazia Hawkins scored 14 and Aamiya Rush chipped in 11 points and eight rebounds. Tye Metcalf rounded it out with 10 points and seven assists.
