MUW men can't muster win against Millsaps College

Keith Harris scored 25 points and Carlos Wilkerson added 10, but the Misssissippi University for Women men's basketball team lost at Millsaps College 69-58 Sunday night at the Hangar Dome.


Harris had a strong performance for the Owls hitting 11 of 18 shots from the floor. Of the 18 field goals, the senior guard from Starkville hit 2-of-6 in three-point range and 1-of-4 from the line to lead all scorers in the competition.


The W (2-5) connected on 37.3 percent (25-67) of its shots, while the Majors hit 40.0 percent (24-60) in field-goal attempts. The Owls were 4 of 23 from behind the arc, while Millsaps hit 11 of 25 from long range. The W was 4 of 8 from the free-throw line, while the Majors were 10 of 17.



The W outscored Millsaps 32-18 in the paint, but loss the advantage in bench points, 33-13.


The Owls opened the game with a 6-0 run and held a lead for most of the first half. The Majors got back in the game, outscoring The W 17-11 to tie the game with seven minutes left in the period. The two teams traded points and entered halftime in a 26-26 tie.


In the second half, the Owls and the Majors continued their scoring exchange to remain within three of their competitor's lead. With the game at 39-38 in favor of Millsaps, the Majors went on a 12-5 run to increase their lead to 51-43 with under nine minutes left to play.


The W was able to get within two with 6:32 remaining when Harris knocked down a three-point jumper. However, the Owls got no closer.


Kaleb Jenkins led the Majors with 15 points and Zachary Tullos brought down one offensive rebound and seven defensive rebounds for a game-high 8 boards.


The W returns to action on Saturday when the Owls host Talladega College at Emma 'Ody' Pohl Gymnasium. Tipoff is at 4 p.m.
