Prep basketball roundup: New Hope boys rain 3s in win over West Lowndes

The New Hope boys basketball team played to its strengths Saturday against West Lowndes in the final game of the West Lowndes Tournament.

 

The Trojans (4-0) sank 13 3-pointers in their 77-33 victory over the Panthers.

 

Senior Jaylen Smith led New Hope with 17 points.

 

 

Freshman LJ Hackman scored 13 points, and senior RL Mattix scored 11. Sophomore Caleb Parr scored seven points and grabbed eight rebounds.

 

The Trojans will host rival Caledonia for a doubleheader Tuesday. The girls game will start at 6 p.m., and the boys game will start at 7:30 p.m.

 

The Panthers will travel to West Point for a doubleheader Tuesday. The girls game will start at 6 p.m., and the boys game will start at 7:30 p.m.

 

Southwind boys 53, Columbus 33

 

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Columbus High School boys team suffered a 53-33 loss to Southwind (Tenn.) on Saturday at the Ridgeway Classic in Memphis, Tennessee.

 

Tre Dismuke had 12 points for the Falcons (3-3) in the defeat.

 

Columbus will host Saltillo for a doubleheader Tuesday.

 

The girls game will start at 6 p.m., and the boys game will start at 7:30 p.m.

 

Aliceville boys 51, Noxubee County 47

 

The Noxubee County boys team was edged by Aliceville (Ala.) on Saturday at the West Lowndes Tournament.

 

The Tigers and Jackets were tied at 47-all, but Aliceville got a late bucket, survived a near-miss from Noxubee County and made two free throws to seal the win.

 

Statistics from the game were not available.

 

The Tigers are 2-3 and will play a doubleheader Friday at Starkville.

 

The girls game will start at 6 p.m., and the boys game will start at 7:30 p.m.
