Cameron Wright recorded his second hat trick in a three-day span for the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science boys soccer team, and Trevor Allen joined him with three goals as the Blue Waves beat rival Philadelphia 8-1 on Thursday at the Columbus Soccer Complex.
Wright had three goals to lead MSMS (2-3, 1-1 Class I, Region 4) in Tuesday's 6-1 home win over West Point, and he delivered again Thursday. Allen had three goals and three assists Thursday. Jeremiah Hunt and Jesse Tran each scored for the Blue Waves.
"Scoring 14 goals against one surrendered in the last two matches speaks volumes for the boys effort and intensity this week," head coach Tim Wood said in a news release from MSMS. "I loved the pressure we put on Philadelphia. We made it really difficult for them, and we'll be able to learn and take a lot away from this match. Every day we take steps forward."
On the girls side, the Blue Waves (3-2-1, 1-1-1 Class I, Region 4) won big again. Weslyn McMurrin, Mandy Anderson and Emily Berry each had a pair of goals, and MSMS beat the Tornadoes 7-0.
Tierah Macon followed up her hat trick Tuesday with a goal Thursday.
"Tonight was another complete effort for us," head coach Chuck Yarborough said. "We have gotten a little banged up early in the season, but our experienced players adapted to new roles, and our beginning players stepped up to contribute in the ways we hoped they would."
