Zias Perryman scored three touchdowns and special teams ruled the day as the No. 17 East Mississippi Community College football team improved to 5-3 with a 55-20 blowout of Coahoma Community College (1-7) on Thursday in Clarksdale.
EMCC blocked a punt for a touchdown and recovered two Coahoma fumbles for scores. Shavoke Herrington picked up the blocked punt for a 30-yard score early in the second quarter, and Kevontae Ruggs picked up a loose ball in Coahoma’s end zone three minutes later. In the third quarter, Julius Coates took a fumble 26 yards for a Lions touchdown.
Perryman rushed for 10-yard, 1-yard and 2-yard scores for EMCC and finished with a team-high 12 carries for 67 yards. Keon Moore had 10 carries for 75 yards, and Hamm McGee had five for 76 yards. Kameron Martin ran 36 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
At quarterback, freshman Jamari Jones had the bulk of the snaps, completing 10 of 21 passes for 75 yards. Sophomore Connor Neville completed 6 of 12 for 83 yards, including a 25-yard score to Jason Brownlee.
Coahoma scored its touchdowns on passes of 58 and 95 yards from quarterback Joseph Johnson, and Johnson ran in a 2-yard score late in the third quarter.
EMCC’s final game of the regular season is next Saturday, Oct. 26, at 2 p.m. against Northeast Mississippi (3-5).
