The softball and baseball teams from the Mississippi University for Women are both going to the World Series.
The Owls are the No. 3 seed in the USCAA Small College World Series in softball, which begins Monday in DuBois, Pennsylvania. They have a 22-9 record.
The W’s baseball team is the No. 5 seed in the USCAA Small College World Series in baseball, which also begins Monday in DuBois.
Ace pitcher Madison Scoggin, who has an 11-4 record, leads the Owls’ pitching staff in softball. The team’s 1.99 earned-run average is ranked No. 1 in the country. Joining her are senior pitcher Clara Steward, and freshmen Amelia Stalter and Donna Douglas.
Heidi Matthews, Carolyn Wilkinson, Kristen Martin, Bailee Watts, Kandler Flora and Anna Lloyd lead the Owls offensively.
The W opens the tournament on Monday at 3 p.m. CT against sixth-seeded Carlow University at Rose and Dennis Heindl Memorial Field in DuBois City Park.
Just a little earlier, at 12:30 p.m. CT Monday, the baseball team faces Wright State Lake Campus at Kenneth “Gamey” Showers Field in DuBois.
MVP Brandon Jones leads the Owls with a .403 batting average. The sophomore infielder had driven in 19 RBIs.
Among those joining him is Damain Benefield, who is hitting .397 with 25 RBIs and 19 runs scored.
Junior pitcher RJ Dell has five wins.
The Owls have a 16-11 record.
