Mississippi State freshman forward Mario Kegler has reportedly asked for his release and intends to transfer. The news was first reported by Evan Daniels of Scout.com.
MSU men’s basketball coach Ben Howland is out of town and couldn’t be reached for comment. Kegler and Howland are expected to meet Wednesday.
Kegler started all but one of MSU’s 32 games last year, averaging 9.7 points and 5.5 rebounds. Kegler shot 42.1 percent from the field and averaged 28.2 minutes per game. The transfer leaves Aric Holman as MSU’s only returning frontcourt player to start at least 20 games last season.
