STARKVILLE — Mississippi State softball just bolstered next season’s outfield in a big way as the Bulldogs announced Tuesday the transfer addition of Louisiana Tech outfielder Sierra Sacco.
Sacco was the 2022 Conference USA Freshman of the Year and has been a first-team All-Conference USA selection the past two years.
“We are thrilled to welcome Sierra to Starkville and can’t wait to get her on campus this fall,” Mississippi State head coach Samantha Ricketts said in a press release. “Sierra brings an elite work ethic to go along with her speed and all-around athleticism to our lineup.”
Her freshman year saw her named a top-10 finalist for the Schutt Sports/National Fastpitch Coaches Association National Freshman of the Year as she hit .441 with a 1.046 OPS, seven doubles, three triples and 28 stolen bases.
In 42 games as a sophomore, Sacco hit .333 with an .852 OPS, five doubles, one triple and 36 stolen bases.
For her career, she is hitting .392 with a .955 career OPS.
Defensively, she’s recorded 13 assists over her first two collegiate seasons, throwing 10 runners out at home.
“I loved the coaching staff and the atmosphere Mississippi State had to offer,” Sacco said in Tuesday’s press release. “I love the family feel to the community and how it’s a small town with a big stage.”
